Odoproof

Frequently asked questions

How does Odoproof get my trips? +

It securely connects to your Tesla account and reads your trips automatically — no dongle and no manual entry.

Will my logs satisfy the IRS? +

Odoproof keeps contemporaneous records with date, distance and purpose, and a running business-use percentage — the substantiation IRC §274(d) requires. It is not tax advice; your accountant remains your source of truth.

Can it retrieve my past trips? +

Tracking begins once you connect your Tesla; trips are captured going forward. There is no reliable way to reconstruct history you didn't record.

I have a company car — does this help? +

Yes. Clean personal-use records keep your W-2 fringe-benefit value accurate so you aren't overtaxed.

Is my data safe? +

We use least-privilege access to your Tesla data, encrypt it, and never sell it. See our Security page.

How much does Odoproof cost? +

Three plans: $9/mo for up to 3 vehicles, $49/mo for up to 30, and a Custom plan for more — contact contact@odoproof.com.

Does the IRS treat a Tesla differently from a gas car for mileage deductions? +

No. The IRS makes no distinction by drivetrain. The substantiation rules under IRC Section 274(d), the recordkeeping in Publication 463, and the standard mileage rate all apply to a battery-electric Tesla exactly as they do to a gasoline car.

What is the current IRS business standard mileage rate for a Tesla? +

The business standard mileage rate is 76 cents per mile effective July 1, 2026 (it was 72.5 cents for the first half of 2026). It is the same for an electric Tesla, and it can change annually, so confirm the current figure at irs.gov when you file.

Can I reconstruct my Tesla mileage log at the end of the year? +

It is risky. The IRS expects records kept at or near the time of each trip and treats reconstructed year-end logs as weak evidence. Because a vehicle is listed property, estimates are not accepted, so a contemporaneous log is strongly preferred.

What happens if I get audited and my mileage records are inadequate? +

Under IRC Section 274(d), the IRS can disallow 100 percent of your claimed vehicle deductions if your records are missing or inadequate, even if you really did drive for business. That can lead to back taxes, interest, and accuracy-related penalties.

How do I calculate my business-use percentage for a Tesla? +

Divide your business miles by your total miles for the year. That percentage determines how much of your car costs you can deduct under the actual-expense method and how much company-car use is excludable from taxable wages.

Be first to keep your Tesla miles audit-proof.
