Odoproof

Frequently asked questions

How does Odoproof get my trips? +

It securely connects to your Tesla account and reads your trips automatically — no dongle and no manual entry.

Will my logbook satisfy the CRA? +

Odoproof keeps an accurate, year-round logbook with date, destination, purpose and kilometres, plus a running business-use percentage — the record the CRA expects. It is not tax advice; your accountant remains your source of truth.

Can it retrieve my past trips? +

Tracking begins once you connect your Tesla; trips are captured going forward. There is no reliable way to reconstruct kilometres you didn't record.

I have a company car — does this help? +

Yes. Clean personal-use records help you prove business use over 50% and personal use of no more than 20,004 km/year, unlocking the reduced standby charge and keeping your T4 automobile benefit accurate.

Is my data safe? +

We use least-privilege access to your Tesla data, encrypt it, and never sell it. See our Security page.

How much does Odoproof cost? +

Three plans: $9/mo for up to 3 vehicles, $49/mo for up to 30, and a Custom plan for more — contact contact@odoproof.com.

Is there an EV exemption from the automobile taxable benefit in Canada? +

No. Canada applies the standby charge and the operating expense benefit to a battery-electric Tesla exactly as it does to a gasoline vehicle. The flat 34¢/km operating benefit (2026) applies even though electricity is cheaper than fuel.

How many personal kilometres can I drive and still get the reduced standby charge? +

Personal driving must not exceed 20,004 km per year (1,667 km per 30-day period), and the automobile must be used more than 50% for business. Both conditions must be met, and only a logbook can prove them.

What per-kilometre allowance is tax-free for using my own Tesla in 2026? +

The CRA's reasonable allowance rates for 2026 are 73¢ per kilometre for the first 5,000 km and 67¢ per kilometre thereafter (provinces). An allowance is tax-free only if it is reasonable and based solely on kilometres driven, which means it must be logged.

How long do I have to keep my Tesla mileage logbook? +

Keep your logbook and supporting receipts for six years from the end of the tax year they relate to. If you use the simplified method, also keep the base-year logbook for as long as you rely on it.

What is the CRA's simplified logbook method? +

After keeping one complete, representative 12-month base-year logbook, you can keep a continuous three-month sample logbook in later years and extrapolate your business use — as long as it stays within 10 percentage points of the same period in the base year.
